CQ Researcher Virtual Field Trip

J I recommend you check off these steps as you complete them.

Note: This assignment required two written paragraphs.  Please see Steps 8 and 9.

STEPS to use the CQ Researcher database:

____1. Go to our S.C.C. campus website (http://www.scc.spokane.edu).

____2. Once there click on the "library" link (down the left side of the screen).

____3. Under the heading Library Databases, click on Databases A to Z.

____4. If you are off campus, enter your Student Identification Number (SID) as your Library Card Number and click "continue."

____5. Scroll down to CQ Researcher and click on it.

____6. On the right side of the screen find the list of Recent Reports and click on one that interests you.  If you don’t find any of the Recent Reports interesting, type a topic in the search strip and pick a recent report from the list your search generates.

____7. Browse through the report, reading a bit here and there.  Find the Pro/Con section of the report and read each position carefully.

____8. Write two one-paragraph summaries, one for the Pro position and one for the Con position.

____9.  Write your summaries this way:  Read each author’s position as many times as it takes to understand it.  Then, close the screen and think about the author’s position a bit while sipping on a non-alcoholic of your choice.  Without referring again to the article (no fair peeking), write five or six sentences stating the author’s position and reasons why he or she holds that position.  This summary should be your own words, so, again, NO PEEKING back at the article for help
