How
to use the eLibrary
database to locate Cliff Schneider’s essay “I’m Still Learning From My Mother.” J I recommend you check off these steps as you complete them. ____1. Go to our S.C.C. campus website (http://www.scc.spokane.edu). ____2. Once there
click on the "library" link (down the left side of the screen). ____3. Next click
on Databases A to Z, under the heading "Library Databases." ____4. Scroll down the list of databases to “eLibrary”
and click on it. ____5. If you are off
campus, enter your Student Identification Number (SID) as your Library
Card Number and click "continue." ____6. Click on the words
“Advanced Search located just above the left-hand side of the white strip. ____5. When the new screen appears, scroll down below “More
Search Options” and type into the Document
Title strip “I’m Still Learning from My Mother”; then type “Schneider” in
the Author’s Name strip. After checking your entries for accuracy,
click on the green “Advanced Search” button a bit further down on the left. ____6. If all has gone
well, you should be looking at the article’s title in a blue font. ____7. Click on the
blue-font title to email, print, or read the article. ____8. Now collect the
proper citation for the article if you plan to use any of it in your essay. ____9. To do this, first find the words “Citation View” (in a
green font) toward the top of the screen and click. You now should be looking at a suggested
MLA and APA citation for the article. UNFORTUNATELY,
the citation information is NOT in the proper format. ___10. BUT you can fix it: Click on the word “Edit” just above the
left-hand side of the citations. When the screen changes, find the “author”
strip and replace what’s there with the words Schneider, Cliff (not
underlined). ___11. When you have Schneider, Cliff in the “author” strip,
scroll down and click on the green “Update Citation” button. ___12. In a few seconds, the correctly-formatted MLA and APA citations should appear. ___13. If you were to use this article in your essay, you would copy-and-paste the MLA version into the Works Cited page at the end your essay. (Note: we use the MLA format in English 101, but you may well need to use the APA format when writing in your major field.) |
