Prompt: In a short in-class writing, discuss the two or three most important influences in your life.

In other words, what influences have been most responsible for making you the person you are. Influences can be people, books, ideas, events, anything. Influences can be positive or negative

A sample thesis sentence might be “The three most important influences in my life have been name of first influence, name of second influence, and name of third influence.”

When I grade your essay, I will look for the following in particular:

ü Organization: a clear thesis sentence at the end of your first paragraph. A “Milkshake Essay” structure throughout.

ü Development: a clear topic sentence at the beginning of each body paragraph as well as unity, coherence, and completeness of body paragraph details.

ü Language Use: absence of general errors, sentencing errors (fragments, comma splices, run-ons). Proper use of Words Often Confused. Proper subject-verb agreement.
