First, return to Machiavelli’s The Prince (pp. 1949-1959) and review his advice to rulers concerning maintaining power. Next, consider Claudius in Hamlet. How does Claudius’s kingship measure up to Machiavelli’s advice? Please explain.

The character of Hamlet has been portrayed many different ways through the centuries. Some actors have portrayed him as insane, some as immature and whiny, some as a strong cowboy type; some have even portrayed him as gay. In a healthy paragraph pretend that you are cast in the role of Hamlet. How you would portray him? What general sense would you use to create him? Insanity? Immaturity? Cowardice? __________?
