DIRECTIONS: As you may know, present-day Islam is split into two opposing groups, the Sunnis and the Shiites.

Using legitimate web sources, briefly research the origin of Islam and, most particularly, what events created the two opposing groups.

In addition, see if you can discover which of the two groups is in the majority in the following Mideast countries: Iran, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, and Turkey.

When finished with your research, please write a brief summary of your discoveries.
