Directions: Please complete WRITING ASSIGNMENT #1, p. 671 after reading the essay Propaganda Techniques in Today’s Advertising by Ann McClintock, pp. 663-669. Also refer to the handout Writing the Introductory Paragraph for advice on building your introduction.

When I grade your essay, I will look for the following in particular:

Ø Organization: A first paragraph that does the following:

names the author

names the work

adds a brief summary

builds a bridge to your thesis (a transition)

states your thesis at the end of the paragraph

This is your final out-of-class essay. Please demonstrate that you are ready for the next level of writing.

Ø Development: a clear topic sentence at the beginning of each body paragraph as well as unity, coherence, and completeness of body paragraph details.

Ø Language Use: absence of sentencing errors (fragments, comma splices, run-ons). Proper use of Commonly Confused Words (Zero-Tolerance Skill #1)
