Web Wednesday Assignment #5

The ProQuest Quest

(20 points possible)

DUE: Beginning of class,

6I recommend you print these steps out and check them off as you complete them.

STEPS to use the ProQuest database:

____1. Go to our S.C.C. campus website (http://www.scc.spokane.edu).

____2. Once there click on the "library" link (down the left side of the screen).

____3. Next click on ProQuest, under the heading "Search Articles and Databases."

____4. If you are off campus, enter your Student Identification Number (SID) as your Library Card Number and click "continue."

____5. Click on the green "Publications" tab at the top of the screen.

____6. Then click the letter 'T.'

____7. Next, scroll down and click on "Time; New York."

____8. In the search strip, enter the words "Iraq" and click "search."

____9. If all has gone well, you should be looking at blue-font article titles from most recent to least recent, with the February 2008 Time articles at the top. (Pretty cool, huh?)

____10. Under each blue article title is an icon and the words "Full text."  Click on "Full text" and read an article. This is the exact article that appears in the magazine.

____11. Note that ProQuest will provide the citation for each article.  Just look up toward the top just under Document View and click on "Cite this." Once the screen appears, you can select among MLA, APA, and others. PThis is the information you would provide if you were to use any of the words or ideas from this article in your own writing.

____12. Exit ProQuest.

____13. Finally, write a paragraph sharing your thoughts about this experience. (What features did you like?  Do you see ProQuest’s usefulness or not?  Questions you still have about using ProQuest?)
