Directions: Develop, write, edit, and submit a short essay (4 to 5 paragraphs—2 to 3 double-spaced pages) having to do with one of the questions below. Please use MLA format for your essay. This would include double-spacing, using 12pt font, and properly documenting others’ words and ideas.

1. In 2011, France formally banned the wearing of full veils in public places, becoming the first European country to do so.  The Netherlands (Holland) is presently considering a ban.  Would you support the same sort of ban in the United States?  Please give well developed reasons for your opinion.

2. Each high school generation has its own sense of clothing styles, of what to wear to be accepted.  Recalling your high school experience, write an essay giving the clothing “rules” you felt pressured to follow and give examples of how those who did not conform were treated.
