Scenario: The good news is that you are the
greatest attorney of your time; the bad news is your time happens to be in
Venice just after Othello’s suicide.
Added to this bad news is that you are in service to the Venetian
Ruling Council. The city is already roiling over what has transpired on
Cyprus, so the Duke and his council do not want Iago’s trial and expected execution
to further incite the public. To
forestall this, the Venetian Ruling Council assigns you to be Iago’s defense
attorney, instructing you to give Iago the best defense possible. You have no option but to agree. FIn a paragraph or two, share with us your opening statement
to the jury. Begin your statement with the words, Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, today
stands before you Iago . . . . |
