Jim’s OPPOSING VIEWPOINTS ESSAY ASSIGNMENT

WISH LIST

PARAGRAPH 1:  Describe your issue in a few sentences and explain why the issue is important to your reader. Add a final sentence to this paragraph stating your position on the issue (no “fence-sitting”—you have to state an opinion).  This is your essay’s thesis sentence.

PARAGRAPHS 2, 3, 4: Each paragraph should contain a well-developed supporting point, plus a nicely-blended quotation from your source to enhance the paragraph’s impact.  Properly document the words you blended.

PARAGRAPH 5: Write a short conclusion of the following flavor:  Assume that your reader now agrees with your position on the issue, so recommend specific action(s) your reader can take now that he or she agrees.
