In Dave's Words
Hello All!
My name is Dave Jones. Please call me Dave (just don't call me late for dinner :-)). I was born in the back seat of a Volkswagen Bus while my father was driving to a hospital in Spokane, Washington and I have been traveling ever since. I was raised as a National Park Service brat living in some of the most beautiful parks in the United States. When I finally decided to settle down, I obtained my BS in Computer Science from Cal Poly, Pomona in Southern California, where I met my beautiful wife, Karin, and lived there until a few years ago.
I put myself through school working in small computer stores where I learned to repair and program personal computers. After graduation, I took a job in the (then) fast paced business of Aerospace.
While working in Aerospace in the area of research and development, I began my graduate degree in Technology Management (MSTM) from Pepperdine University, Malibu, California. The bonds made during these 2 years with my classmates are still there and as a result, I have access to some of the top company's management structure.
I have a passion for computers, Internet, and building software. I truly enjoy the interaction and satisfaction that comes from the creation of software tools. My wife is a grade school teacher and my son, 14, and daughter, 16, are all very proficient in computers.
I recently worked for a small Internet company, WebCrossing, Inc., as VP of Software, managing a force of programmers, consultants, and customers. I have taught extensive seminars in the areas of Internet protocols, HTML and customization of our products to people around the world. I also served as faculty for the online portion of the University of Phoenix, teaching various computer related courses.
I have over 25 years of experience in software development, design, project management, and the overall technology and engineering management process. I am new to Spokane Community College and am currently working at SCC as a full time faculty member teaching software development classes in the CIS department.
I was a full-time telecommuter with a very extensive home office, high speed Internet, multiple computers of all kinds and multiple operating systems. I travel occasionally to do training and on-site consultation for my customers, but mostly stay at home and try to be a good husband and father.
I am very active in my church and community, giving me the "social fix" that I am lacking with a "real" job in an office building. As such, I am very familiar with the problems, challenges, and rewards to working by myself in the context of a greater online community.
I look forward to working with everyone here, reading your bio and learning from you as well! :-)
