Professional Experience

My educational experience is exclusively in counseling. I have worked as a counselor at SCC since 1981. I have served as testing coordinator and disabilities services counselor. I currently serve as counseling department chair. I have a Master's Degree in Education with a major in Guidance and Counseling from Gonzaga University (1974). I also have a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Eastern Washington University (1973). I have worked as an excavator, operating heavy equipment, a steel warehouseman, a landscaping contractor, a finish carpenter and as a private practitioner in marriage and family counseling. I have furthered my education by studying for the Washington State Mental Health Counselor exam and by working to establish a Crisis Team to respond to students in crisis on campus.

Philosophy and Counseling Style

I believe in your ability to make the best decision for you, if and when you have all the information relevant to your choices. My job is not to make the decision for you, but to assist you as you discover more about yourself and the educational choices you face. arrows.gif (2527 bytes)I will help you by providing information about your career options, the educational requirements to achieve those options and the cost to you both financially and personally. I will assist you in learning how to navigate through the admissions and registration process. I will answer your questions about how to deal with the difficulties you face with your learning experience here and I will refer you to the appropriate resources for the answers I do not have. I want you to learn to be successful and to carry that experience with you the rest of your life.
